 Senior Championship - Round 1

Bornacoola 0-11 Annaduff 2-14

Our senior championship campaign got off to a disappointing start when we were beaten by a well drilled Annaduff team in front of a large attendance in Cloone on Saturday evening last.

The first half was a very even affair and after 25 minutes the teams were level at 0-5 apiece and but for some stray shooting, the Bors could well have held the lead at that point. However it was Annaduff that finished the half stronger with two well taken points to lead 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

The key moment in the second half was a penalty for Annaduff just five minutes in, which extended their lead to five points. The Bors did respond well, recording the next two points in reply, but just as the game appeared to be entering the melting pot with 15 minutes remaining, a harsh refereeing decision when the Bors looked to have earned a free out, led to a turnover and Annaduff’s second goal which gave them a six point lead that in effect put the game to bed.

The final score of 2-14 to 0-11 was a little harsh on the Bors but there is no doubting that our neighbours were deserving winners on this occasion.

We return to Cloone on Saturday evening next when St Mary’s will be the opposition for a 5.30pm throw in.

Team on duty on Saturday was Mark Mc Closkey, Brian Duffy, Conor Mc Cauley, David Mulligan, Shane Conroy, Jason Conroy, Damien Mc Guinness, Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, Damian Moran, Sean Mc Keon, Allan Croghan, Ronan Mulligan, Ollie Vaughan and Brian Conroy. Subs used were: Liam Mulligan, Trevor Howard, Kevin Shanley, Noel Mc Enroe, Daniel Farrell and Liam Jones.
