Bors in Group B for Senior Championship

Bornacoola have been paired with neighbours Annaduff as well as Glencar/Manorhamilton, St Patrick’s Dromahair, Drumreilly and St Mary’s in the group stage of the 2017 Senior Championship.

This year, for the first time, the Championship will be based on two groups of six teams and in last night's live Shannonside FM draw, Bornacoola found themselves in Group B.

The game of most interest to neutrals will be the clash of Bornacoola and Annaduff. The sides last met in the Relegation semi-final last September when the Bors came from behind to record a two point victory. It was a similar story when the sides met in 2014 at the same stage of the Championship, when the Bors came from behind to seal a 0-14 to 1-7 victory. Annaduff's last championship win against the Bors was ina 7th/8th place play-off in 2013.

Glencar/Manor and St Marys will rightly be regarded as favourites for the group and the Bors have not had a good record against either side in recent years. In 2015, Bornacoola suffered a 1-18 to 0-7 defeat to Manor and in 2016 St Mary's triumphed over the Black and Amber men by 2-13 to 1-10.  Our last victory over Manor came in the 2011 Championship in a classic game in which the Bors triumphed by a single point under the tutelage of Seamus Mallon, while one has to go all the way back to 2007 to find a Bornacoola victory over St Marys in the Championship.

Dromahair earned their place in the Senior Championship when they captured the county Intermediate crown in 2014. Since then, they have proven somewhat of a bogey team for the Bors with Championship victories coming the North Leitrim men's way in both 2015 (when they triumped by three points) and last year when they edged home on a 2-7 to 0-12 scoreline in a close game in Ballinamore.

Bornacoola's last Championship outing against Drumreilly came in 2012, when the Black and Amber were comfortable 0-14 to 0-6 winners.
