Intermediate Championship

Bornacoola 1-9 Ballinaglera 0-12

Bornacoola completed the round robin section of their Championship campaign when they played Ballinaglera in Drumshanbo on Sunday last. With qualification for the Quarter finals at stake, it was a tense game throughout with both teams giving an edgy performance.

The Bors did take control towards the end of the first half however when Cian Mallon goaled and this ensured we led at the interval by 1-5 to 0-6. The loss of county player Damian Moran to injury at the start of the second period might have proven a decisive blow on another day, but the young Bors continued to fight for their lives throughout the second period and in the end sealed their intermediate championship status, and a place in the quarter finals, with a deserved 1-9 to 0-12 draw. On Sunday next, we face Annaduff in the Quarter Final in Cloone – throw in will be at 12 noon.

Remarkably, the game was our third draw in five championship outings - however the victory over Aughavas a few weeks back ultimately proved decisive in terms of qualification from the group and despite defeat to Kiltubrid in our penultimate group game, the Bors go into the County final having achieved their main goal for the season.

Team on Sunday was Danny Farrell, Kevin Mulligan, David Mulligan, Damien Mc Guinness, Mervyn Howard, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, Liam Jones, Damian Moran, Ollie Vaughan, Conor Mc Cauley (0-1), Liam Mulligan, Ronan Mulligan (0-1), Cian Mallon (1-3) and Sean Mc Keon (0-4). Subs used were Anthony Mulligan, Sean O Riordan and Robert O Beirne.
